In Slivers of Truth, nine large-scale portraits of local community members were installed in the windows of the Presidential Life Insurance building in Nyack, New York. The community portraits were accompanied by texts of interviews reflecting the residents’ different views on life in the village of Nyack, specifically in reference to diversity and education.

Cook became interested in diversity and education in the community after having visited as part of an exhibition of Black artists at the Rockland Center for the Arts. After discussions with members of the community, obtaining information from the Tulin Diversity Report on the Nyack School District, and doing additional personal research, Cook interviewed nine community members between the ages of 16 and 83. The participants, of different ethnic, cultural, educational and economic backgrounds, gave their own perspectives on diversity in the Nyack/Valley Cottage community.
